Saturday March 14th, Brevard County declared a local state of emergency in order to obtain financial coverage to prepare for COVID19.
Social distancing is limiting social interaction and avoiding crowds of 10 or more. It is important to stay away from large crowds or gatherings, self-isolation when sick, and stay at least 6 feet away from others. Our community needs support from one another: be kind, check on your elderly, immunocompromised, and practice good hygiene. The POTUS announces that this may drag into August.
Cocoa Beach’s iconic Ron Jon Surf Shop is set to close on March 20th. Universal Studios closed Monday March 16th and Disney World closed Sunday March 15th. Local schools also announce closing. Eastern Florida State College discusses the possibility of going online for the rest of the semester (May 8th), rescheduling the graduation ceremony.
Cocoa Beach’s agenda for Tuesday March 17th is to Declare a State of Emergency during the City Commission Meeting. This pandemic is affecting businesses both large and small. Restaurants and bars are rumored to close. Elective surgeries are also rumored to cancel in order to leave resources to those affected by COVID19.
Our stock market continues to be at a low since 2008. The airline industry is requesting aid. Vaccine testing has begun but can take up to a year. Voting slated for Tuesday has been questionable due to the new safety guidelines. New York state is hit hard while San Francisco has begun their 24 hour lockdown over the next three weeks, keeping 7 million inside.
Even if you feel you are healthy and not at risk, please consider those with preexisting health conditions and those who can potentially catch the virus by staying home.
