Port Canaveral, FL- Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill is located in Port Canaveral and has been serving fresh food to the community for 16 years. After being closed for six weeks due to the Coronavirus, Fishlips is excited about phase 1 of reopening, offering their unique food and drinks from 11am-10pm every day. Shrimp nachos, shark bites, wings, tacos, steaks, and pasta are some of the many options available off the menu. There is something for everyone and the drinks are flowing! We interviewed Jadyne Sky, a Fishlips server/bartender.
How has the Coronavirus affected you?
It’s definitely taken a toll, especially on the service industry workers. I was out of work for almost 2 months during our season time. I lost out on $300+ a day, while trying to stay above water and not lose my housing. I did learn that I need to slowdown and take in life more often.
What precautions are the staff members taking now that you have reopened?
We are taking this very seriously. We care so much about our guests and staff’s health. We use gloves to deliver food and we make sure that we aren’t reusing things like cups and pens. Everything gets cleaned and sanitized before reuse. Each table is 6 feet apart and we wipe down everything after each use, including the chairs. We are also taking extra precautions by wearing face masks at all times in the building. Each day we come into work, every employee has their temperature taken. If you’re at 101.4 or higher you get sent home on a mandatory two-week period. We are even scheduling designated silverware rollers. That way everything is done in a sanitary manner.
What do you love about working at Fishlips?
It truly is like a family. Working there has shown me that a business can actually care for you. They went above and beyond for us during this period, sending care packages of food to employees. I’m truly thankful to be apart of the Fishlips family.
What is your favorite drink and meal from Fishlips?
My favorite meal has to be the Crabby Mac N Cheese. I’m a sucker for pasta and cheese. My favorite drink is actually one my friend Charles and I recently came up with together, called “Irish Mafia Martini.”
Thoughts on life after Covid19? Definitely taking it day by day. I’m a lot more cautious about my daily routine outside of the house, and I am super cautious at stores. I don’t believe this is over. I think we are all going to have to adjust to life, how it is now, and continue to be careful and self-aware.
Any community shout outs?
We would like to congratulate all of the businesses that were able to reopen back up in “The Cove”.
